Apple Shakes Up Management Team, Dumps Exec Who Flubbed the Maps App

Apple announced a major management move Monday that involved two executives being let go — including the one who oversaw the launch of the doomed Apple Maps, reports Deadline.com.

Software chief Scott Forstall and retail head John Browett were given their pink slips. Forstall, the man behind the maps as well as Siri — the voice-enabled assistant — was once seen as Steve Jobs’ successor. However, Forstall has clashed with other members of the management team since Jobs’ death.

Eddy Cue will now oversee Siri and Maps, while Forstall will be an adviser to CEO Tim Cook until officially leaving in 2013. A replacement for Browett is being sought.

"Apple reported disappointing Q4 results last week and shares were down about 9.5% over the last month as investors wondered whether the company can continue to fly,” the report notes.
