The BBC sexual abuse scandal widened Sunday with the arrest of a 1970s rock star in connection with the case, The New York Times reports. British police arrested Paul Gadd, who is better known as the 1970s glam rock star Gary Glitter, the story reports.

The arrest comes on the heels of accusations that he abused a teenage girl on the BBC’s premises, the story adds. Gadd was released on bail late Sunday.

The sexual abuse scandal has grown since the U.K.’s ITV earlier this month broadcast a documentary about the late British television host Jimmy Savile. About 300 people have come forward to claim they were abused by Savile and others at the BBC studios.

"The case has shocked the nation and shone an intense spotlight on the BBC," the article notes. "Nagging questions remain there about why an investigation into Mr. Savile by the ‘Newsnight’ program was abruptly canceled last December, and how much its executives knew about serious allegations that one of its stars had engaged in widespread sexual molestation in the 1970s and 1980s."

  1. If he doesn’t watch it, that UK mockumentary from a few years back, “The Execution of Gary Glitter” might become a reality.
