Even as His Affair With ‘Red Sonja’ Co-Star Is Confirmed, Schwarzenegger Hopes to Reunite With Maria Shriver

Former California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger told Fox News that he’s hopeful he might be able to reunite with Maria Shriver, whom he called a "fantastic" wife, the Los Angeles Times’ L.A. Now reports.

The movie star, who is promoting his new autobiography "Total Recall: My Unbelievably True Life Story," said he couldn’t explain the affair that led to Shriver moving out of the family’s Brentwood mansion in 2011 and filing for divorce. Schwarzenegger had covered up an affair with their housekeeper, Mildred Baena, that resulted in the birth of a son, now 14.

The new book confirms what actress Brigitte Nielsen revealed in 2011 — that Schwarzenegger and Nielsen had an affair during filming of “Red Sonja” in 1985, when Schwarzenegger was already living with Shriver.

Schwarzenegger talked about his affair with Baena on CBS’s “60 Minutes,” saying: "I think it was the stupidest thing I’ve done in the whole relationship. It was terrible. I inflicted tremendous pain on Maria and unbelievable pain on the kids."
