Lifetime announced today that it has renewed a docu-series that has been performing well for the cable channel. The series is “Dance Moms,” which will return for a third season.

Lifetime ordered 26 new episodes of the hour show, with the new season set to launch in 2013. The series wrapped up season two in September.

In its second season the show was the No. 1 unscripted cable series in its time slot (Tuesdays at 9 p.m.) in women 18-49 and women 2+, Lifetime reported. The season was up over season one by wide margins in a number of demos, including a 69% improvement in adults 18-49, 72% in women 18-49, 64% in adults 25-54 and 66% in women 25-54.

Additionally, “Dance Moms” is Lifetime’s youngest-skewing current series, with a median age of 32, the network said.
