The leader of one of the most popular rock bands of the past 20 years dropped a bombshell this week, indicating the group will no longer be out there fighting foo — at least for a while.

The Los Angeles Times reports that Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl released a statement saying: "I’m not sure when the Foo Fighters are going to play again. It feels strange to say that, but it’s a good thing for all of us to go away for a while.”

Grohl, who was the drummer in the seminal grunge band Nirvana, formed the Foo Fighters following the suicide of Nirvana frontman Kurt Cobain in 1994. The Foo Fighters went on to become one of the most important and successful rock bands of the past two decades, including winning 11 Grammy Awards.

The band, which has won Best Rock Album at the Grammys four times, released its seventh studio album, “Wasting Light,” last year.

Grohl offered words of encouragement to Foo Fighters fans, indicating the band’s break will be temporary. “I never want to not be in this band,” he says in the statement. “So, sometimes it’s good to just … put it back in the garage for a while."
