NBC Takes the Wraps Off Its New-Look Thursday Night Comedy Lineup

NBC is taking another shot at creating what it hopes will be a successful Thursday night comedy lineup. As part of the new block, the network has scheduled the return of the critically acclaimed and fan-favorite comedy "Community" after delaying its fourth-season premiere earlier this month.

The series will return Feb. 7, reports Bill Carter in The New York Times’ Media Decoder. The show will hold down a time slot on Thursdays at 8 p.m., rather than its previously scheduled Friday night time period, which Carter calls "the lost-items zone of Friday nights."

With its new time period, "Community" will replace "30 Rock," which is ending its run, and will be part of a new Thursday night block, the piece adds. A new comedy, "1600 Penn," will air at 9:30 p.m. starting Jan. 10 and "Parks and Recreation" will shift to 8:30.

In another scheduling move, "Smash," about the making of a Broadway musical, will be moved from its protection of "The Voice" and into a new time period on Tuesdays at 10 p.m. The show will return March 3 at 9 p.m. with a two-hour episode.

"Revolution" will keep its slot after "The Voice" — at 10 p.m. Mondays — and will return from a hiatus on March 25.
