Broadcast networks are featuring more gay characters this season than ever before, according to a report from the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, reports EW.com’s Inside TV.

ABC has been identified as the most gay-friendly network, with shows like "Happy Endings" featuring gay characters. Ten out of 194 regular characters were identified as LGBT, the piece adds. Fox is in second place, with six LGBT characters out of 118. The CW is in third place, while NBC and CBS placed fourth and fifth, respectively.

While CBS placed last among the broadcasters, the report singled out the network’s efforts to increase diversity, as its percentage of LGBT characters jumped to 2.8% from less than 1% last season, according to the piece.

On cable, Showtime beat out HBO, last year’s leader, with 12 LGBT characters, the story notes. HBO’s "True Blood" was named cable’s most inclusive show, with six LGBT characters.
