‘The Good Wife’ Co-Creator Admits Current Storyline Was a Bad Idea

One of the co-creators of CBS’s award-winning drama series "The Good Wife" says he regrets a current storyline involving the character Kalinda, played by Archie Punjabi, the New York Post reports, citing an interview in TV Guide.

Robert King admits in the interview that he now thinks an S&M storyline for Kalinda was a bad idea.

“I think … people just don’t want Kalinda to go there, which I think is a worthy response that I never thought,” King said in the interview.

The Emmy-winning actress’ character — a tough, attractive investigator for the show’s signature law firm — has been thrust into a violent, passionate and complicated love/hate storyline involving her previously unseen husband, Nick (Marc Warren). Fans have mostly responded with disapproval, the report notes.

“I think it was pushing buttons that are not really healthy buttons to push,” King said. “I thought it would come across as Kalinda was giving as good as she got, but it’s not coming across that way.”

  1. Hurray! A writer finally listens to viewers, and admits to starting a bad storyline. Now the challenge is how well he can craft a swift and compelling ending to it. Hopefully, other writers will learn from this example that the viewers opinion does have some value.

  2. Thrilled to hear this…I so don’t like this storyline and I thought it was me. Glad to hear others agree. Now let’s see the writers get Kalinda out of this situation and “Nick” out of the picture. It was a storyline that as not needed and did nothing to advance the show or the character. But I do love everything else about The Good Wife 🙂
