"Two and a Half Men" star Angus T. Jones has opened up for the first time after sparking a controversy with statements he made in a church testimonial, in which he called the CBS comedy "filth" and urged viewers not to watch, reports Deadline.com.

As previously reported, Jones made the comments in a taped video for a religious group called Forerunner Chronicles. After asking viewers to stop watching the sitcom, he added, "I don’t want to be on it."

Jones on Tuesday released a statement to Deadline, in which he expressed his gratitude toward the show, co-creator Chuck Lorre, CBS, series producer Warner Bros. TV and studio head Peter Roth for providing him with "the opportunity they have given and continue to give me and the help and guidance I have and expect to continue to receive from them."

He added, "I apologize if my remarks reflect me showing indifference to and disrespect of my colleagues and a lack of appreciation of the extraordinary opportunity of which I have been blessed. I never intended that."
