ABC has hired an Olympic gold medalist for its diving show "Celebrity Splash," putting to rest questions about whether the network would go forward with the show given news last week that Fox had greenlighted a similar diving program, reports Deadline.com.

Greg Louganis, who racked up four gold medals at the 1984 and 1988 Olympic Games to go with a silver he won at the 1976 Games, is joining the ABC project.

The Eyeworks USA produced show will tap celebrities to perform dives from heights up to 10 meters, with a professional diving instructor training them, the story notes. Louganis’ role will be as one of three judges who rate the dives.

Fox last week greenlighted "Stars in Danger: High Diving," a two-hour reality pilot slated to air during the holidays. ABC’s diving show is scheduled to debut next year.
