One of the original cast members of the prime-time Fox soap opera “Melrose Place” has been found guilty of vehicular homicide and assault by automobile in connection with a collision that killed a 60-year-old woman and critically injured her husband, USA Today reports.

Amy Locane-Bovenizer, who played Sandy Louise Harling on the 1990s drama series, was driving drunk when the crash occurred in Montgomery Township, N.J., in 2010, according to the report.

She was acquitted of a more serious charge of aggravated manslaughter, the story reports.

“The verdict followed a six-week trial in which she did not testify but her defense attorneys argued the crash was the result of a ‘perfect storm’ of bad circumstances,” the piece reports. “Prosecutors said Locane-Bovenizer’s blood-alcohol level was nearly three times the legal limit at the time of the crash, and she was speeding on a dark two-lane road. Her lawyers conceded she was driving under the influence, but they said she was being chased by another driver she had rear-ended earlier, forcing her to speed.”

The actress, who left “Melrose Place” after appearing in 13 episodes, “faces five to 10 years on the vehicular homicide charge, and three to five on the assault by auto charge,” the report says. “She also faces penalties for nine motor vehicle charges, including DWI and fleeing the scene of an accident.”
