Political advertising this year is on track to surpass 2008 figures by a wide margin, Joe Flint reports in the Los Angeles Times’ Company Town blog.

Television stations are expected to haul in $2.6 billion in political advertising this year, a 68% jump from 2008, when political ads reached $1.6 billion, the piece reports.

The states benefiting most include Ohio, Pennsylvania and Florida, while the broadcast groups likely to see the biggest spending include E.W. Scripps Co. and Journal Communications, the story says, citing consulting firm SNL Kagan.
