Sharon Osbourne, one of the co-hosts of CBS’s daytime gabfest "The Talk," revealed that she recently had major surgery — a double mastectomy, the AP reports.

The procedure was voluntary. Osbourne learned that she carries the gene that increases the risk of getting breast cancer. In an interview with Hello! Magazine, Osbourne said, "I didn’t want to live the rest of my life with that shadow hanging over me. … It’s not ‘pity me.’ It’s a decision I made that got rid of this weight that I was carrying around."

Osbourne, who turned 60 last month, has been a TV fixture for the past 10 years after gaining attention through the MTV reality series “The Osbournes,” which focused on Sharon Osbourne, her husband, rocker Ozzy Osbourne, and their kids Jack and Kelly. Since then she has been a judge on the talent competitions “The X Factor” and “America’s Got Talent” along with her hosting job on “The Talk.”
