The veteran film director whose credits include three “Death Wish” features starring Charles Bronson has died, The Huffington Post reports. Michael Winner died today at his home in London after an illness, according to the report.

After debuting with the nudist film “Some Like It Cool” in 1962, the London-born Winner went on to focus on the action genre. He directed “The Mechanic,” “Scorpio” and “The Sentinel,” among other films.

Later in his career, he became a restaurant critic for The Sunday Times in London, writing the “Winner’s Dinners” column.

“Winner had experienced health problems since getting a bacterial infection from bad oysters in 2007,” the story reports. “He wrote his final column in December, but refused to say goodbye forever.”

In his final column, Winner wrote: "Who knows, after Christmas I might make a comeback. How many times did Sinatra do it?"
