Veteran TV Director in Hot Demand This Pilot Season — His Resume Includes ‘Cheers,’ ‘Friends,’ ‘Frasier’ … the List Goes On

One of the busiest directors during the current pilot season is a TV fixture whose name is familiar to fans of quintessential sitcoms including “Cheers,” “Taxi,” “Friends,” “Frasier” “Laverne & Shirley” and “The Mary Tyler Moore Show.”

Deadline.com reports that James Burrows is in hot demand this season. Burrows has booked three multicamera comedy pilots — a third of all the multicamera pilots picked up by the broadcast networks so far, the report notes. He may also direct a fourth pilot.

He’s set to direct NBC’s Victor Fresco pilot starring Sean Hayes; the CBS pilot "Friends with Better Lives"; and the untitled CBS Greg Garcia pilot.

That means that Burrows is directing two of CBS’s three multicamera pilots. It’s not a surprise, given that Burrows directed pilots for four of the network’s current comedy series: "The Big Bang Theory," "Two and a Half Men," "2 Broke Girls" and "Mike & Molly."

His long TV resume also includes “Wings,” “3rd Rock from the Sun,” “Dharma & Greg,” “Rhoda,” “The Bob Newhart Show,” “Will & Grace” and many other successful shows.
