ABC is touting the first week of “Jimmy Kimmel Live” at 11:35 p.m. as the best week in the 10-year history of the show. The network said in a press release that “Kimmel,” which debuted Tuesday in the time slot after moving from midnight, averaged 3.009 million total viewers for the week.

That beat the show’s previous high by 26% — a 2.388 million average for the week of Nov. 21, 2011.

The show also delivered its best number in the key 18-49 demo in more than nine years, with its 0.84 average rating the best since the week of Nov. 24, 2003.

Head-to-head with CBS’s “Late Show with David Letterman” and NBC’s “Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” “Kimmel” equaled Leno’s 0.84 average rating in the 18-49 demo and beat Letterman’s 0.66. In total viewers, Leno led the way with an average of 3.525 million, followed by Letterman’s 3.137 million and Kimmel’s 3.009 million.
