White House Rules on Piers Morgan Deportation Effort

Responding to a petition requesting the deportation of CNN host Piers Morgan because of his views on gun control, the White House said Morgan can stay in the U.S., reports Forbes.com.

In a statement explaining the decision, White House spokesman Jay Carney said the First Amendment shouldn’t be violated over arguments about the Second Amendment.

“Americans may disagree on matters of public policy and express those disagreements vigorously, but no one should be punished by the government simply because he or she expressed a view on the Second Amendment — or any other matter of public concern," Carney wrote.

The petition gained more than 109,000 signees, beyond the 30,000 signatures necessary to require a response from the White House, Forbes notes.
