Julia Roberts’ Niece — Who’s Also Eric Roberts’ Daughter, Which Rarely Gets Mentioned — Snags Lead in Fox Pilot

The niece of movie star Julia Roberts has been carving out a nice acting career for herself, and now Emma Roberts has been cast in the lead role of the Fox pilot “Delirium,” EW.com’s Inside TV reports.

Emma Roberts is also the daughter of actor Eric Roberts — a fact that tends to get overlooked with all the attention paid to his megastar sister Julia.

Emma, who previously starred in the Nickelodeon series "Unfabulous," will appear in “Delirium” as Lena, a teenager who is awaiting the mandatory "cure" that all citizens in her dystopian world get when they turn 18. The surgical cure disables the country’s citizens from feeling love, which is thought to be a disease — the delirium.

The project is based on the bestselling young adult novels by Lauren Oliver.

Emmas father, Eric Roberts, has done all right for himself as an actor too, including being nominated for an Oscar in 1986 for his supporting role in “Runaway Train” — again, perhaps overshadowed by his sister’s success, with Julia Roberts’ Oscar for “Erin Brockovich” and nominations for “Pretty Woman” and “Steel Magnolias.”

Emma, 21, hasn’t made the kind of impact yet on the major awards circuit that her father and aunt have, but she has been nominated for a string of Kids’ Choice Awards and Teen Choice Awards, for “Unfabulous” and the movies “Nancy Drew,” “Twelve” and “The Art of Getting By.”

As a trivia note, Eric and Julia Roberts have appeared together in only one movie: the 1989 Western “Blood Red.”
