The fees that are paid by television pilots to tape in Los Angeles have been waived by the Los Angeles City Council in a unanimous vote, reports Deadline.com.

The council also waived similar fees for the first year of production on any pilot that’s taped in the city and is picked up to series, the story adds. The measures were first proposed by Councilman Eric Garcetti as a way to keep projects from moving to other cities. Garcetti is running for mayor of L.A.

Out of a total of 152 pilots produced last year, 92 were filmed in Los Angeles, according to permitting organization FilmLA. The city collected $231,000 in TV pilot production fees during the 2011-2012 fiscal year, the story adds.
