Ricky Gervais is dusting off a character who was a fan favorite but disappeared — almost — about 10 years ago. Deadline.com reports that Gervais will bring back his David Brent character from the original British version of "The Office."

Brent made a brief appearance in one of Steve Carell’s last episodes of NBC’s "The Office," but otherwise hasn’t been on air in a decade, the story says.

Gervais will revive the character for the charity telethon Comic Relief. He wrote on his blog, "I thought it was time to revisit my most famous comedy creation to find out what he’s been up to for the last decade and most importantly what he’s up to now.”

A mini-episode called "The Office Revisited" will show Brent selling cleaning products, but also managing acts and living vicariously through a performer called Dom Johnson, the story says.

The Deadline report adds: “According to Gervais, ‘Fans of “The Office” will be excited to know we finally get to hear the whole of “The Serpent Who Guards the Gates of Hell” and an amazingly cringeworthy, self-funded video, “Equality Street.” Horrendous.’”
