A veteran actor known for “Homicide: Life on the Street” and a number of other television and film roles has joined a high-profile comedy project at Fox.

Deadline.com reports that Andre Braugher, who recently appeared in TNT’s “Men of a Certain Age,” will be a part of Fox’s untitled Mike Schur/Dan Goor comedy pilot, where he will co-star opposite “Saturday Night Live” alum Andy Samberg.

Braugher starred recently in ABC’s military drama series "Last Resort," which wasn’t renewed after its initial 13-episode run. He has also played a recurring role on “Law & Order: SVU.”

The new Fox comedy is about a diverse group of detectives who work at the very edge of New York City. Braugher will play Capt. Holt, a 30-year veteran of the police department who isn’t going to allow anyone — especially Jake, played by Samberg — to screw up his career, the piece says.

  1. I thoroughly enjoyed Men of a Certain Age and Last Resort. I would hate to be a TV executive as I really don’t understand America’s obsession with reality programs as opposed to high quality, well written, well acted programs. I guess Twitter mentality and short attention span doesn’t lend itself to many of the great series available and often discarded. Half hour comedies usually fare better, let’s hope this one does.

  2. Tom, unfortunately well written and well acted costs the suits money. They are not interested in quality, they are only interested in maximizing return on investment and the latest stock price. In our society there is nothing wrong with that. However if you happen to be one of those “creative types” that wants to apply a thought pattern to a given piece of entertainment, then you are not part of the lowest common denominator. You are in the minority and do not figure into the Honey BooBoo equation and must be cast aside.
Andre is a great actor and I hope he does well.
