The epic Leo Tolstoy novel "War and Peace" is becoming a BBC miniseries, written by Andrew Davies, who adapted "Pride and Prejudice" for the BBC’s 1995 version starring Colin Firth, reports Deadline.com.

Davies is writing a six-part miniseries that will air on BBC One in 2015, and it’s likely that a U.S. partner will join the project, the story says.

The book begins in 1805 Russia and focuses on five aristocratic families. Davies is quoted in the story saying the book is a "thrilling, funny and heartbreaking story of love, war and family life. The characters are so natural and human and easy to identify with and Natasha Rostova just beats Lizzy Bennet as the most lovable heroine in literature."
