CBS has cast a well-known comedian in its new "Beverly Hills Cop" TV project, according to The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed.

Kevin Pollak, a stand-up comic whose credits include playing a district attorney on "Shark," will portray the in-house attorney for the Beverly Hills Police Department in the pilot. His character, Rodney Daloof, is described as a bully and a stickler for the rules, the story notes.

The potential series would be an hour-long crime procedural, with some elements of humor. It’s about the police officer son of Axel Foley — the character played by Eddie Murphy in the original movies — who tries to catch criminals in Beverly Hills.

Pollak, known for his celebrity impressions, has appeared in a string of feature films including “The Usual Suspects,” “A Few Good Men” and “The Wedding Planner.” On TV he has hosted “Celebrity Poker Showdown” and “Million Dollar Money Drop,” and his numerous acting gigs included the Syfy miniseries “The Lost Room” and the HBO miniseries “From the Earth to the Moon.”
