A judge has determined that David Williams is likely to win a libel case he filed against ABC over a “20/20” report by former ABC correspondent Chris Cuomo, who now works for CNN, according to The Hollywood Reporter’s Hollywood, Esq.

Williams was presented by "20/20" as a dangerous Internet predator who lured women into romantic relationships to "prey" on them financially, the story says. On Tuesday a California judge rejected a motion by the network to dismiss the libel claim.

“In dismissing ABC’s motion to strike the claims based on its First Amendment speech rights, Judge Franz Miller determined that Williams was likely to win the case and ruled that the plaintiff has adequately demonstrated that ABC was negligent in failing to use reasonable care to determine the truth or falsity of statements before the episode in question aired,” the story reports. “The case now proceeds toward trial or an appeal by ABC.”

ABC said it disagrees with the ruling and is looking at its legal options.

Cuomo, the brother of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, is at the center of CNN’s plans to retool its morning lineup, as previously reported.
