Animal Dies During Shoot for Kmart Commercial

A shoot for a Kmart television commercial in the Los Angeles suburb of Van Nuys resulted in the death of a 5-foot-long white-tipped shark, the Los Angeles Times reports.

The shark had been placed in an above-ground swimming pool in a residential back yard for the shoot last month. After reportedly showing signs of stress it was given adrenaline and received oxygen from a trainer, the story says. It died after it was removed from the pool and transported to Long Beach, where it was to be examined by a specialist.

The American Humane Association issued a rebuke, as did People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, which opposes using any animals in filming.

A spokeswoman for the AHA said the group has asked a third party to investigate the incident, while a representative for Sears Holding, the parent of Kmart, said it is investigating.

  1. Later, the crew went to a seafood restaurant where a lobster was boiled alive. And no one complained.

  2. wtf is kmart? wtf is sears? no commercial will help them whether it be animals or nude girls.

  3. Would the above 2 joke if this animal was them? Yes, it may not be much to them, but a life is a life. In this case, it was also someone’s income. Please respect that!

  4. TV Observer… so that’s your real name? Glass houses? Not to mention it seems they are not spoofing on the dead shark, rather making two completely unrelated comments
