Fans of a canceled drama series put their money where their hearts are to show their support for a movie version of the TV show. "Veronica Mars" creator Rob Thomas said, "My mind is blown," after he raised $2 million in 11 hours via a Kickstarter campaign to fund a movie based on the series, reports EW.com’s Inside TV.

The goal was to raise $2 million in 30 days, the story says. But only four hours into debuting the campaign on the crowd-funding site, the "Veronica Mars" project had broken records, according to the Associated Press.

The project is the fastest yet to reach the $1 million mark, the AP story reports, reaching the milestone in 4 hours, 24 minutes.

"I’ve been fantasizing about this and had to tell myself, ‘Stop it, Rob, you’re being silly. You’re setting yourself up for disappointment,’” Thomas said. "And now today has exceeded the wildest pipe dream I let myself entertain. Holy cow. We better make a good movie. These amazing fans have stepped up. We better deliver.”

Even though the goal has been reached, the project will continue to accept pledges, EW.com notes. Thomas is targeting a theatrical release in early 2014.

“Veronica Mars,” which starred Kristen Bell, was canceled in 2007 after three seasons on UPN and the CW, but it continues to have a cult following through exposure on Netflix, AP notes.
