Disney Junior has announced a renewal for a series that is part of Disney Channel’s preschooler-targeted programming block. The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed reports that the animated show “Sofia the First” will be back for a second season.

The series focuses on Disney’s first little-girl princess, with her voice provided by Ariel Winter of “Modern Family.” And Disney is leaving no stone unturned in its marketing of Sofia.

“’Sofia’ airs on Disney Channel’s Disney Junior programming block targeted at preschoolers as well as its new 24-hour Disney Junior channel,” the story reports. “It is cable TV’s top show among kids ages 2-5 as well as among both girls and boys in the demo and also is the No. 1 preschooler cable TV series in total viewers and women 18-49, which Disney points to as a sign of parental approval.”

The show, produced by Disney Television Animation, is also the basis of the TV movie “Sofia the First: Once Upon a Princess,” just out on DVD, and a line of toys and apparel that is set to launch nationwide this summer. The character is already a presence at some Disney attractions, with plans in place to expand that presence at Disney Parks and other venues.

Nancy Kanter, senior VP of original programming and general manager at Disney Junior Worldwide, commented: "We are so proud of the strong connection our young viewers and their parents have forged with Sofia. While she and her family live in a magical make-believe world, the storytelling and relatable everyday themes have struck a chord with our audience."

The report notes: “The series follows Princess Sofia, an ordinary little girl, as she learns how to adjust to royal life after her mom marries the king. The voice cast also includes Sara Ramirez as Queen Miranda, Sofia’s loyal and caring mother; Wayne Brady as Clover, Sofia’s wise-talking rabbit sidekick; and Tim Gunn as Baileywick, the castle’s royal steward.”
