ABC News announced today that it has hired a veteran of CBS News as an anchor and chief national correspondent. ABC News chief Ben Sherwood made the announcement that the network hired Byron Pitts, The Huffington Post reports.

Pitts is expected to begin his new job in a few weeks.

“Pitts has been with CBS News for more than a decade, the story reports. “He is a correspondent for the ‘CBS Evening News’ and appears regularly on ‘60 Minutes.’ He is well-known for his 2009 memoir, in which he detailed how he was illiterate until the age of 12. With Pitts’ departure, ‘60 Minutes’ is left with an all-white broadcasting lineup.”

Sherwood wrote in the announcement: "An accomplished reporter and brilliant storyteller, Byron has a unique talent for stories about people and communities facing the longest odds.”

The announcement comes on the heels of news that “CBS This Morning” Saturday anchor Rebecca Jarvis is leaving the network, as previously reported. Jarvis is also thought to be headed to ABC News.
