A veteran television comedy director who worked with Bob Hope on many of his holiday specials and on series such as "The Jeffersons" has died. The Hollywood Reporter says Jack Shea, 84, died of complications from Alzheimer’s.

The director worked on his first Christmas special with Bob Hope in 1962, earning him his first Emmy Award nomination. He also worked with the comic on his performances in front of U.S. troops around the world, the story adds.

He directed 110 episodes of "The Jeffersons," and also wrote three episodes and produced 24. Other TV shows he worked on include "Silver Spoons," "The Ropers," "Sanford and Son" and "Designing Women," an episode of which earned him his second Emmy nomination in 1987.

Shea began his TV career as a stage manager at NBC in Burbank, working on programs including "Philco Playhouse."

His last credit came on the sitcom "Goode Behavior," starring Sherman Hemsley, in 1997, the piece adds.

Shea served as DGA president for three terms, from 1997-2002, and in 1992 received the Robert Aldridge Award, which honors extraordinary service to the DGA and its membership, according to THR.
