An ABC series got off to a bad start on its new season, scoring its worst-ever premiere in the key 18-49 demo, based on Nielsen overnights. TVbytheNumbers.com reports that Thursday’s premiere of “Wipeout” mustered only a 1.2 average rating.

Meanwhile, CBS’s overall win for the night was tainted by seeing “Elementary” sink to an all-time low with a 1.8 average in the 18-49 demo, down two-tenths from its previous series low a week ago.

CBS had mixed results for the rest of its lineup, with “The Big Bang Theory” losing three-tenths of a ratings point from last week with a 4.6 in viewers 18-49 — still easily the top show of the night. “Two and a Half Men” rose two-tenths to a 3.4, while “Person of Interest” matched last week’s series low, a 2.4.

ABC got good news from “Scandal,” which surged six-tenths to a 3.2 in the 18-49 demo, setting a series high. “Grey’s Anatomy” delivered a 2.9, slipping one-tenth from last week.

Fox’s “American Idol” moved up two-tenths from last week for a 2.8 average in 18-49, while “Glee” also ticked up two-tenths, to a 2.1.

NBC’s one-hour “The Office” came through with a 2.3 average rating in adults 18-49, half a point better than last week. The finale of “Community” managed a 1.3, ticking up one-tenth, while “Hannibal” remained flat with a 1.1.

For prime time overall, CBS led the way with a 2.7 average in the 18-49 demo, followed by ABC (2.4 average), Fox (2.4), NBC (1.5) and Univision (1.5). CBS had a comfortable lead in total viewers, averaging 12.1 million to Fox’s 8.6 million, ABC’s 7.3 million, Univision’s 3.5 million and NBC’s 3.3 million.
