Aereo Going for Knockout Punch in Legal Battle With Broadcasters

In its legal battle with broadcasters, Aereo is looking to score what The Hollywood Reporter’s Hollywood, Esq. calls "the ultimate ruling."

The Barry Diller-backed company filed for summary judgment in the case, which is looking into the legality of Aereo’s service providing acces to over-the-air television programming to consumers’ digital devices.

If U.S. District Judge Alison Nathan agrees with Aereo’s contention that no jury could conclude that Aereo technology violates broadcasters’ public performance rights, the case will not go to trial, the story notes.

Aereo has already scored a pair of legal victories, “beating back a preliminary injunction and affirming the ruling at an appeals court,” the report notes.

The broadcasters believe the case isn’t yet over, and are expected to respond soon to Aereo’s request, the story says.
