Rapper Chris Kelly, who was half of the 1990s rap team Kris Kross, has died, reports ABC News. Kelly, 34, was pronounced dead Wednesday night at the Atlanta Medical Center, the story reports.

Authorities were investigating the circumstances surrounding his death, the story says. An autopsy was expected to be performed later today.

Kelly was known as a backward-pants-wearing boy rapper who became famous with "Jump," from the 1992 Kris Kross album "Totally Krossed Out." Kelly was 13 years old when the song was released. The song went on to spend eight weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Kelly and his musical partner Chris Smith toured with Michael Jackson in 1992 on his "Dangerous World Tour." Their last album, 1996’s "Young, Rich & Dangerous," reached gold status, the story notes.

Yahoo Music writer Billy Johnson Jr. told ABC News that he interviewed Kelly in February, and that the performer had gone back to school to become a studio engineer. Kelly reportedly said pictures of him showing patches of his hair missing were due to a skin disease called alopecia.

Fans had questioned his health after the photos surfaced. Kelly "said that those rumors had been very hurtful because people thought he had cancer and it wasn’t true," Johnson said, according to the report.
