Why Charlie Sheen’s ‘Anger Management’ Will Have a Four-Week Run on Fox

"Anger Management," the Charlie Sheen comedy series that airs on FX, is getting a four-week sampling on the cable net’s sibling, the Fox broadcast network, in what’s most likely an attempt to re-inflate sagging ratings, reports Michael O’Connell in The Hollywood Reporter’s Live Feed.

While "Anger Management" debuted to cable comedy records, the show has suffered a steep ratings decline, the story notes. "These days, the series’ ratings are barely recognizable," O’Connell writes.

The show’s May 23 episode averaged just 777,000 viewers and drew a 0.3 rating in the 18-49 demographic. Fox said "Anger Management" will air on Mondays through June, in place of "The Mindy Project" repeats. Two first-run episodes of "Anger Management" will air as part of the sampling.

"It needs to be said that cross-promotion on Fox is hardly unusual, especially during the summer months," O’Connell writes. "But while those broadcasts might have been convenient and mildly helpful in finding a wider audience for the young series, ‘Anger Management’ goes into its Fox run with no shortage of public awareness. And it could use a shot in the arm.”

  1. Anger Management has a great cast, great guest stars…but the situations and characters are kind of dull and predictable…I think all of the members of the group need to be cured and a whole new group needs to be introduced each season…and Charlie needs a new girlfriend, as he and Selma Blair have very little chemistry together…Heather Locklear would be perfect as a replacement
