Actor Ed Burns, known for film roles including “Saving Private Ryan” and “The Brothers McMullen,” has been cast to play the legendary mobster Bugsy Siegel in a recurring role in the TNT series "Lost Angels" from Frank Darabont, reports Deadline.com.

The series, based on the John Buntin book "L.A. Noir," is about the Los Angeles Police Department and the city’s criminal activities led by Mickey Cohen in the 1940s, the story notes. Siegel was a Hollywood figure whose parties were attended by some of the town’s biggest stars.

Robert Knepper, originally cast in a recurring role, has been bumped up to a regular for his role as Sid Rothman, a mobster who works for Cohen. His role on "Cult" ended when the CW canceled the show.
