NBC continues to chart the course for the transition of its late-night staple “The Tonight Show,” which is scheduled for the handoff from Jay Leno to Jimmy Fallon in February. In the latest development, the network named Amy Ozols, a writer for “Late Night with Jimmy Fallon,” to produce the show, Deadline.com reports.

The show will be called “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” reverting to a title format used when it was “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson,” and replacing the “with” that was used for hosts Jay Leno and Conan O’Brien. Lorne Michaels will be executive producer.

Said Michaels: “Amy Ozols has been with Jimmy since the very beginning of ‘Late Night.’ She is brilliant. I think she is the right choice to lead ‘The Tonight Show’ into the future.”

Fallon added: “It’s been so fun working with Amy these past four years — she’s been a standout writer and producer since we started’Late Night.’”

The Deadline piece notes: “’Tonight Show’ has a tradition of female producers at the helm — Debbie Vickers has been the longtime executive producer on ‘The Tonight Show With Jay Leno.’ Ozols, a Harvard/Harvard Law School graduate and Harvard Lampoon alum, has been a writer for ‘Late Night With Jimmy Fallon’ since the show’s premiere in 2009. She has written and produced some of the most popular ‘Late Night’ parodies — including those on the ‘Real Housewives’ franchise, ‘Glee’ (‘6-bee’) and ‘Game of Thrones’ (‘Game of Desks’) — as well as numerous other pieces including Fallon’s well-received opening to the 2010 Emmy Awards.”

  1. Doesn’t matter what you call it because I’ll be watching Conan… or, Kimmel… or, a re-run of Matlock on TV Land. Good luck Fallon… you will need it. How long will it take before they bring back Leno? Bets anyone?

  2. I agree, Letterman is going to win the big dollar advertising hands down. Comblast/NBC is all about cheaper talent and targeting Millennials because they feel they are sitting on big money. The secret behind their money is that they dont spend any of it. Good luck guys.
