Al Jazeera America hired an NBC News veteran as its first White House correspondent. TVNewser reports that the channel hired NBC News correspondent Mike Viqueira for the position.

Viqueira most recently reported from the White House for NBC’s "Today" and "Nightly News," among other NBC productions, the story says. He worked on the White House beat for four years, but was shifted back to Capitol Hill in December, the story notes.

He joins other prominent Al Jazeera America hires including CNN’s Ali Velshi and Thomson Reuters executive John Meehan, who will work on the network’s business coverage.
