Oprah Winfrey’s OWN cable network is doubling down on Tyler Perry. Deadline.com reports that the cable channel has doubled its order for Perry’s “Haves and the Have Nots.”

OWN reportedly ordered 16 more episodes of the rookie drama series, which is produced by Perry. The order brings the total for season one to 32 episodes.

The show’s May 28 premiere was OWN’s highest-rated series premiere ever, the piece notes.

“The series about the rich Cryer family and their hired help garnered 1.77 million viewers (1.57 in women 25-54) at 9 p.m. and another 1.8 million (1.67 in women 25-54) for its second original episode at 10 p.m. in late May,” the piece reports.

In a statement, OWN President Sheri Salata said: “Naturally, it is wonderful to have the network’s first scripted series score so resoundingly. Tyler’s fans and OWN viewers have responded to this guilty pleasure in record numbers, and we are happy to give them more of a good thing.”

The new episodes will premiere in early 2014.
