Polarizing Media Figure Comes to Paula Deen’s Defense

A prominent media figure who tends to polarize viewers has come out in defense of Paula Deen as the TV chef endures a scandal over her use of the N-Word.

Conservative broadcaster Glenn Beck expressed support for Deen during his Web broadcast Wednesday in a "lengthy tirade," reports the Los Angeles Times’ Show Tracker.

Beck, dressed in a quasi-military outfit, compared Deen’s situation to the plight of historical figures such as Christopher Columbus and Martin Luther King Jr.

"Where would the world be if Columbus and Magellan and other world explorers believed conventional wisdom and believed the world was flat. … Where would we be if Martin Luther King didn’t speak and challenge segregation? Where would we be if everyone in the world thought in the box?” he asked.

He described her use of the N-word as a "violation of political correctness, nothing more” and suggested Deen is the victim of "McCarthyism."

"How can people advance if we suppress any thought?” Beck asked. He added, “I’m not putting the N-word into any category of great thought.”

  1. Yes, when I think of Paula Deen I also think of Christopher Columbus, Magellan, and Martin Luther King, Jr.
Good lord Beck, are you on drugs?

  2. The last person Paula needs standing up for her is Glenn Beck. He is about as polarizing as they come. She is getting a bad rap, but her PR team hasn’t helped with the overly edited apology tapes.
