Syndie Talk Show Wins Its Fifth Consecutive Sweeps Period; Court Show Tops All Syndicated Programs

One talk show continues to dominate the post-Oprah Winfrey era in daytime talk, winning its fifth consecutive sweeps period among talk shows. Wrapping up May sweeps with a 3.0 average rating (3.969 million viewers) was “Dr. Phil,” based on Nielsen’s national syndication ratings.

Meanwhile, a court show, “Judge Judy,” was the top syndicated show overall in the sweeps period, averaging a 6.7 rating. The off-network comedy series “The Big Bang Theory” was second (6.4 average), followed by the access game show “Wheel of Fortune” (6.3).

“The Ellen DeGeneres Show” (2.5, 3.289 million viewers) finished in a tie with “Live with Kelly and Michael” (2.5, 3.243 million viewers) for second place among talk shows.

“Dr. Oz” came in fourth with a 2.2 average rating and 2.843 million viewers, followed by “Maury” (2.0, 2.781 million viewers).

“Dr. Phil” was also the No. 1 talk show among women 25-54, rising 12% from a year ago to average a 1.9 in the demo.
