A ratings winning streak that went on for 243 weeks — almost five years — has been broken. ABC News reports that “ABC World News with Diane Sawyer” finished as the No. 1 evening newscast for the week of July 22 in the key news demo of adults 25-54, snapping the 243-week winning streak by "NBC Nightly news."

“ABC World News with Diane Sawyer" topped "NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams" by 38,000 viewers in the demo — 1.917 million to 1.879 million — ABC reported, citing Nielsen Media Research numbers.

The ABC program also closed the gap in total viewers, registering the smallest gap vs. NBC in 42 weeks with a difference of 249,000 viewers — down from 1.28 Million a year ago.

Broadcast news ratings for the week of July 22 show ABC on top in the news demo with a 1.6 average rating/7 share and 1.917 million viewers, followed by NBC (1.6/6; 1.879 million) and CBS (1.3/5; 1.506 million).

NBC had the edge in total viewers with 7.536 million, followed by ABC (7.287 million) and CBS (5.954 million).

Said Michael Corn, "World News" executive producer: “Diane and I are incredibly proud of the talented team of producers and correspondents who come in every day curious about the world. We appreciate the support from our local stations and most of all the loyal viewers who trust us to bring them the most important and compelling stories of the day. We have a lot more work to do. We’re just getting started.”
