After Hulu called off its sale and announced plans to invest $750 million in the company, the streaming site’s next goal appears to be boosting its competitiveness with Netflix — and a key step in reaching that goal is "The Awesomes," reports The New York Times.

Netflix, as evidenced by the Emmy nominations it received Thursday, has succeeded in winning over critics and fans with its original programming, the piece notes.

"With a sale averted, Hulu executives can now focus on more important matters — promoting the site’s highly anticipated animated series ‘The Awesomes,’ which will make its debut Aug. 1," the story reports.

The animated show is Hulu’s first original series this year, and its first-ever animated show. It features "SNL" fixture Seth Meyers as Prock, part of a team of not-so-super superheroes, the piece adds.

"Mr. Meyers is also a co-creator, executive producer and writer along with Michael Shoemaker, whose production credits include ‘Saturday Night Live’ and ‘Late Night with Jimmy Fallon,’" the story reports.

The show will feature voice work by other "SNL" personalities as well, the piece notes, including Bill Hader and Taran Killam.
