A TV movie that became an instant cult classic thanks to the Internet is headed to movie theaters. TheWrap.com reports that Syfy’s "Sharknado," which created a sensation on social media even though its viewer numbers were pretty low, will have a special theatrical screening.

The movie drew only 1.5 million viewers for its premiere on Syfy, and after getting a lot of buzz, it delivered 1.9 million for its encore, TheWrap notes, adding: "Chances are you haven’t watched it yet."

"’Sharknado’ is coming to select Regal, Edwards and UA Cinemas for one night only, the company announced. Friday, Aug. 2 will see a midnight showing at many participating theaters," TheWrap reports. Tickets will be $12.50.

"The movie stars Ian Ziering and Tara Reid trying to save L.A. from a tornado full of sharks," the piece notes.

As we reported previously, "Sharknado 2" is already in the works at Syfy, which is putting on a Twitter contest to name the sequel. The movie also inspired an update to the list of "Syfy’s 17 Most Awesomely Bad Horror Movie Titles."
