CBS announced that it is bringing back a drama series for another season. The Tiffany Network is ordering a 13-episode second season of the summer hit "Under the Dome," to roll out in summer 2014.

Stephen King, who wrote the novel that is the basis for "Under the Dome," will pen season two’s premiere episode.

Making the announcement was Nina Tassler, president of CBS Entertainment.

Said Tassler: “We’re excited to tell more stories about the mystery of the dome and the secrets in Chester’s Mill, and are thrilled to have the master storyteller himself, Stephen King, tell the first one of next season."

The serialized drama has been a rarity this summer: a new scripted series that is performing well on broadcast. It comes from Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Television.

"Under the Dome" is averaging 13.84 million viewers, a 3.5 rating/10 share in adults 18-49 and 4.8/12 in adults 25-54, the network reported.

"In addition to impressive live plus same day ratings on CBS, the series has also seen significant additional viewing on DVR playback, video-on-demand and online streaming — including Amazon’s Prime Instant Video, which provides exclusive online subscription streaming four days after the broadcast on CBS," the network said in its release. "Amazon says that since the show’s launch, UNDER THE DOME has been watched by more customers than any other series on the service."

  1. Coming soon to CBS:
    “Under the Dome: Peoria”
    “Under the Dome: Taos”
    and “Under the Dome: Wasilla”
They just don’t know the meaning of “too much of a good thing.”

Actually, that would be better in my opinion. I was hoping we would get an answer/resolution this year on the dome, and then another season would see another dome slap down, freaking out another group of people (and perhaps include a few people from this year as possible causes?)
” tell more stories about the mystery of the dome and the secrets in Chester’s Mill,”
Now, I fear that is going to be another Lost-ish, milk this scenario until we just about don’t care and then resolve it in whatever fits at that point. Of course, Stephen King being involved/supporting it may mean that I am wrong, but I hope not 🙂
