In a new syndication effort, 21st Century Fox’s Twentieth Television is targeting a deal of up to $1 billion for "The Simpsons," reports Reuters.

"The Simpsons," which is entering its 25th season, first sold in syndication to TV stations in 1998, but the new deal would license reruns to stations and cable networks at the same time, the story reports. Creator Matt Groening would share in the deal’s proceeds.

FX, which is owned by 21st Century Fox, is expected to have first dibs on the deal, but other potential buyers include Viacom and Turner Broadcasting, the story notes.
