The CW’s "Arrow" will introduce a new superhero in the next season, before the character creates his own spinoff series, reports Deadline.com.

"Arrow" co-creators Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg and writer Geoff Johns said on a conference call that the new character, the Flash, will start off as an "ordinary man" when he’s introduced in "Arrow’s" eighth episode this season.

"The character will be as grounded and realistic as possible,” Kreisberg said. “That’s how we’ll get to know him. Then his life will get a bit faster.”

Berlanti added, "That said, he does need powers to become the Flash. And he will be the Flash. He will wear a red costume, and he will go by that name.”

Asked why they decided on the Flash — whose other identity is Barry Allen — rather than another Justice League superhero character, Kreisberg said he was Berlanti’s favorite character growing up. “There’s something very relatable about Barry. He got his powers by accident, they just sort of came to him. … He also isn’t a dark and tortured soul," Kreisberg said.

The next step will be to write the script and find an actor to play the superhero, Kreisberg added. Casting begins this week.
