HBO Chief Executive Richard Plepler and Programming President Michael Lombardo have a message for writer George R.R. Martin, whose fantasy novels are the basis for the network’s hit "Game of Thrones," reports EW.com’s Inside TV.

The message: Keep writing.

Asked during HBO’s session at the Television Critics Association press tour about the report that the show would last seven seasons, Lombardo said, "As far as I’m concerned, they can go on as long as there are stories to tell."

But he added that since the show is relying on Martin’s series, which so far has published five of the planned seven books, "I know there are issues with the books and catching up."

Plepler added, "Our line to George was, ‘Keep writing.’”

“Yes. Get busy writing,” Lombardo agreed.

That’s something that fans of the novels have also been urging Martin to do, given that the fifth book in the series took the author six years to complete.
