Shakeup in the Works for CNN Schedule, Wolf Blitzer

Changes are in the works for the CNN programming lineup, and while the final configuration remains uncertain, TVNewser.com reports that the cable news channel may give Wolf Blitzer the 1 p.m. time slot permanently. Blitzer, who currently holds down the 5-7 p.m. slot, has also been filling in regularly at 1 p.m.

The reason for the possible move is "Crossfire," which will return to the network this fall, although the time period isn’t yet set.

"Right now the opinion among a handful of CNN staffers is that ‘Crossfire’ will air during the 6-7 p.m. hour, and if indeed that is where it ends up, Blitzer is expected to get 1-2 p.m. in addition to 5-6 p.m., where ‘The Situation Room’ currently airs," the story notes. "The Situation Room" is hosted by Blitzer.

TVNewser adds: "We also hear that when CNN President Jeff Zucker spoke to DC staffers last week during a bureau meeting, he said that they had not made a final decision with regard to when ‘Crossfire’ would air, so there is still a chance Blitzer will keep his two-hour afternoon block."

The report notes: "One thing is clear: Wherever ‘Crossfire’ ends up on CNN’s schedule, the shows around it will be shaken up in some form."

  1. Why would you want to change the best news channel of the top three (FOX, CNN, and MSNBC) to make it just like HNL. HNL used to be the place to go for news, now it is worthless for news. CNN was the place to get unbiased news unlike FOX which is too far right or MSNBC which is way too far left. Wolf Blitzer is the best overall provider of all national and international news. Please go back to providing news and not Oprah Winfrey style reporting. One or two days of Zimmerman is more than enough.
