Showtime celebrated record ratings for the premiere Sunday night of a new drama series. TVLine.com reports that the debut of "Ray Donovan" delivered 1.35 million total viewers, topping "Homeland" as the pay-cable channel’s most watched original series launch in its history. "Homeland" opened to 1.08 million total viewers.

"Ray Donovan" stars Liev Schreiber as a fixer for the rich and famous, with Paula Malcomson and Jon Voight also among the key cast members.

Other big Showtime premieres include "Shameless," which brought in 982,000 total viewers, and "The Borgias," which opened to an audience of 1.06 million, the piece reports.

"Setting the table for ‘Ray Donovan’ was ‘Dexter‘s’ final season opener, which drew 2.5 million viewers — the show’s largest premiere audience ever (besting last fall’s 2.4 mil), yet down 11 percent from the Season 7 finale (2.8 mil)," TVLine adds. "Including replays, ‘Dexter‘s return amassed 3.2 mil — again, up from the Season 7 premiere’s 3.0 mil but down from the finale’s 3.4 mil."
