A popular CBS drama series is about to lose two of its original cast members. TVLine.com reports that toward the end of its sixth season, "The Mentalist" will bid farewell to Amanda Righetti and Owain Yeoman.

"The departures of colleagues and sometime lovers Van Pelt and Rigsby will likely tie into this fall’s unmasking of Red John, a six-year-old mystery whose resolution is poised to set the show on a new course," the story reports.

Series creator Bruno Heller would "neither confirm nor deny" the report of the departures, but noted that the program is entering its "most dramatic and game-changing season, and anything can happen.”

  1. THis ticks me off. I like the Mentalist, but dislike the Red John continuing storyline. Like every other series I’ve watched, these sort of story lines end up being the series weakest point, and when they resolved them, the series changes so drastically it loses interest.
Also, dropping characters usually indicates a need to cut expenditures because of rising cast salaries, a lowered budget, or both… none of which are a good sign for a series.
If the actors want to leave that’s one thing, but regardless of why, my viewing experience is that this is a bad sign for a series.
At any rate, I hope they don’t pull the typical story point of killing these characters. Doesn’t any character just retire or find another line of work? And, in conjunction with this, I also hope that neither one of them turns out to be Red John. I will stop watching the show if that happens.

  2. well NCIS does need a new famale supporting actress
