NBC was the top network Sunday in adults 18 to 49 with the telecast of an NFL game between the Washington Redskins and the Dallas Cowboys.

Football scored a 6.6 preliminary national rating in adults 18 to 49, a number that includes live viewing plus same-day viewing via digital video recorders, according to Nielsen Media Research. That was down 25 percent from last week’s season debut, a highly touted game that featured brothers Peyton and Eli Manning in a dueling quarterback matchup.

The highest-rated nonsports programming of the night in adults 18 to 49 was Fox’s animated comedy “Family Guy” at 9 p.m. (4.5). “Guy” was down 17 percent from its premiere the previous week. No. 2 in nonsports programming Sunday was the second part of ABC’s preseason special “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” at 9 p.m. (4.4), followed by an original episode of Fox’s “The Simpsons” at 8 p.m. (4.2).

CBS debuted the 10th installment of its reality veteran “Amazing Race” at 8:30 p.m. with a special 90-minute episode, scoring a 3.9 in adults 18 to 49. “Race” was down 11 percent from its September 2005 two-hour premiere (3.9), but up 22 percent from its year-ago time period premiere.
